Character Fleadh at Skokie Festival of Cultures
Sean Colledge (banjo/concertina/mandolin/fiddle) and I will play a brief duo set at the Skokie Festival of Cultures on May 19th from 5-5:30pm. Like I said, brief! Otherwise, the band is somewhat off the public gig radar, playing private gigs.

WHPK-FM (U of Chicago's radio station - "Pride of the South Side!") has joined the list of stations playing our debut EP, which also includes WDCB (College of DuPage) and WEFT (Champaign, IL). We're in the process of selecting material for another EP to represent our expanded quintet line-up, and I've written some arrangements for the group to play with a drums/bass rhythm section. No word on scheduling for either.

Film Soundtrack Work
I'm in the process of tracking/mixing the score that I composed for a silent film short directed by Leah Chen Baker and edited by my buddy and onetime studio business partner, Jon Heidelberger. It's a really neat early silent film pastiche with a great sense of texture and style. The music I composed is an homage to the film music of that era, in this case comprising a melange of early Jazz-Age Romanticism, Eastern European folk, and Impressionist compositions for string quartet and piano. I'm playing piano and Tautologic string buddies Nick Photinos (Eighth Blackbird) and Jeff Yang (Mannheim Steamroller) comprise my "virtual quartet."

Incidentally... although this has been a LOT of work for a grand total of 3.5 minutes' worth of music, I've really enjoyed the challenges of storytelling and compositional homage involved in this project. If anyone out there has a film and a music budget, drop me a line. I'd like to do more.

Carpetbaggers Local 606
Both the Cajun and Bluegrass "divisions" of Carpetbaggers are playing a lot of private gigs this summer. Public appearances are in the works for the bluegrass line-up (October 14, Roselle Public Library) and the Cajun trio (check back soon for details). New demos for both the Cajun and Bluegrass configurations are on in the works as well, and - owing to the ungainliness of typing "Carpetbaggers Local 606 (Cajun Division)" - don't be surprised if you see the Cajun group spun off under a separate name...!

Mobile Recording for WBEZ's Chicago Amplified
I've been doing quite a bit of mobile event recording for clients including WBEZ (Chicago Public Radio), Metropolitan Planning Council, Chicago Humanities Festival, and the Newberry Library. If you're looking to document a speech, panel discussion, or other event, drop me a line. Prices are quite affordable and turn-around is quick.

Recent Studio Recording Projects
It's been like a reunion at my studio, lately. Singer Michael Hutchins and saxophonist Bob Sass each have come into Studio Sellers to knock out some new demos in the last month or two. It's always great to see those guys and a fine endorsement of my services that I get the repeat business!

Voice Lessons for adults
I'm taking serious new adult students for voice lessons. See my Voice page for details.

Piano Lessons for Children
My approach combines technical study with ear training and music theory, so that students not only learn how to play but how music works, so that they have the tools to express themselves.
